Playing with papers by Jim Hathaway

The lotus are back on the pond. I’ve been sketching and playing with different papers and painting grounds.

Yesterday I finished this one.

Brushes by Jim Hathaway

The delivery man dropped off a box today and had a funny smile. I said he was looking at the mess my studio is. My sister said he was looking at my brushes.

I’m back painting Ueno street scenes and am thinking of my teacher’s teacher, George Grosz.

A brush rediscovered by Jim Hathaway

My sister Amy's sheep donated hair for me to make 2 new brushes. I was forced to keep the troubled brush away from the others as it was being eaten. I didn't want whatever was eating it to eat my other brushes.  It remained on the wall behind the TV for years.

It was very stiff hair. They weren't usual sheep. Not usual brushs.

I'm casting about lately, trying new images, new paper,  I thought, why not. try an eaten brush? I gave it  a good scrubbing with strong soap.

It made some rinteresting lines today. I'm optimistic about tomorrow.
