On February 23rd my friend said it was Fuji-San Day. I found out later it was also the Emperor’s birthday. I was watching my kid. But he was too busy and too with his friends to be watched closely so I stood on a side street with no name and made a sketch. The next day in my studio I made this painting. This was the first painting in this group. It showed me the way.

I painted this last one by accident after my paper ran out. I couldn't resist this alley that dead ends into the mountain, so I used some older paper, coated with Venetian red pigment.

Chieko's Sky 15x16 cm,

Temple walls hold the sides. Above is a panorama sky. Here on the hill in Yanaka you still get a big sky. Chieko-san would be happy. I'm sure she saw it. She and Kotaro lived on the next hill in Sendagi. They must have walked this way to the art school and to the park.
